Reverend Leonard J. Blakely

The Reverend Leonard J. Blakely is the current pastor of St. Dennis Church.  He was born in Wilmington, Delaware, on September 8, 1947, a son of Gerald R. and Mildred C. (Welsh) Blakely. He received his early education at St. Paul's Elementary and Wilmington High School, Wilmington. He began studies for the priesthood at St. Mary's Seminary College, Catonsville, Maryland. After completion of theological studies at St. Mary's Seminary, Roland Park, Baltimore, Maryland, he was ordained on May 24, 1980, at St. Paul's Church, Wilmington, Delaware, by Bishop Thomas J. Mardaga.

  • He was first assigned as associate pastor to St. Francis de Sales Church, Salisbury, Maryland.
  • In 1981, he was transferred as associate pastor to Holy Rosary Church, Claymont, Delaware.
  • In 1988 he became associate pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Church, New Castle, Delaware.
  • In 1990 he was transferred as associate pastor to St. Luke-St. Andrew's Parish, Ocean City, Maryland.
  • He was named pastor in 1994 at Sacred Heart Church, Chestertown, Maryland.
  • On June 19, 2006, he became the 23rd pastor of St. Dennis Church in Galena, Maryland.
